Etajoule specializes in the the design of industrial and commercial scale solar projects. It is uniquely experienced in the design and recovery of solar thermal projects with recent experiences in St. Croix, Dominica, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Aruba, and Florida ranging from multifamily low-income housing to 5-star hotels and military facilities.
We are working with AET to decarbonize process heat. They are a proud US manufacturer in Green Cove Springs, FL with a sustainable manufacturing facility. AET makes multiple absorber plates, boasting the highest performing commercially available selective surface at 92% efficiency up to 350ºC. AET collectors have a proven track record for more the three decades, they are a sustainably made US product and the superior option for Mid-high temperature Solar Process Heat Applications.
30% of the process heat in the United States requires temperatures under 100ºC (212ºF). We are working together to address this $15 Billion energy market with simple and reliable technology that can be deployed at scale today. Solar heating with flat plates is the most effective way to decarbonize process heat. Together with Aeroshield we are creating AEROSUN, a mid-high temperature (200ºC) industrial process heat platform. It works by incorporating to our robust flat plate collector technology, a cutting edge transparent insulation material.
We are developing a solar collector for process temperatures between 100ºC - 200ºC that promises efficiencies above 45%. This technology would allow us to use energy directly from the sun to produce steam at low pressures. To do it we are using Aeroshield's transparent aerogel, developed by Dr. Elise Strobach at MIT´s Devise Research Laboratory. This material is more transmissive than glass in the solar spectrum and more insulating than still air. This effort merited a winning project in the Round 4 of the American Made Solar Prize competition.
Heat is >40% of the United States's primary energy consumption. Flat plate solar collectors have proven to be a reliable technology. Enhancing the performance of flat plate collectors to produce industrial grade process heat would be greatly advantageous. This is the solution Etajoule is developing thanks to the aerogel material produced by Aeroshield.
Given the temperature requirements and heating fuel costs of the agricultural sector. Etajoule wants to center its next research and development efforts demonstrating the value of solar industrial process heat in this space.
Our team has developed a revolutionary technological solution that uses an aerogel as an insulator in the collection area of the solar collectors.
This system can improve the performance of solar collectors in agro-industrial applications. For example, the thermal energy extracted from the sun could power a mobile dryer servicing small farmer communities in different agricultural applications like wood drying, dehydration of fruits and spices, pasteurization or any other application requiring heat.
The system will use a solar array 1/4 of the size of typical volumetric dryers. It will be designed to be as autonomous as possible, using mostly clean energy and intended for use in rural areas. The mobile dryer will be designed with a solar collector system located at the top of the dryer and will be connected to an energy storage system that will allow the dryer to operate during non-sunny hours. In addition, high-efficiency insulating materials will be used to reduce heat loss and improve the energy efficiency of the system.
